Business Challenge
If you've ever tried posting an image through a secondary app (Instagram, BufferApp, Hootsuite, etc.) to Twitter, you will quickly find that it often shows up as a link to the image. The actual image itself doesn't fully appear until you click on the link.
Since visual elements play such a huge role in driving engagement, it seems almost pointless to post an image and not have it display.
My Toolkit
The Process
If this, then that is a great service/app that does exactly what its name implies – it allows you to automate if/then actions by connecting various services together. Each time you do so, you are creating a “recipe” which replicates automatically when the “if” command is activated.
In this case, when I shared an image from Instagram, I wanted it to post to my Twitter feed in full form, i.e., showcase the full image. Posting it directly from Instagram by default shows just a link. However, I was able to simple create a recipe to trigger the action.
- I linked my social accounts to the IFTTT (if this, then that) account.
- Under the “If” prompt, I chose If I post an image to Instagram. (And, don’t worry you don’t need to know any coding to do this, it walks you though pre-set choices!)
- Under the “then” prompt, I chose the “Post it Directly to Twitter” option.
My Outcome
This was the perfect solution! Anytime I instagram an image, it now shows up as a full image on my feed rather than a link.
Also, you can search through multiple other recipes that people have created and simply “activate” to automate and optimize more of your social media tasks.
